Katang Trail

Tuesday 27/11/2012 to Thursday 29/11/2012 - KATANG TRAIL TO THE SACRED FOREST.

Three day trek in the Dong Phu Vieng National Protected Area (Laos) with home stay in the villages.

Communist propaganda along the road.

Me, driving a local "Harley Davidson" (tractor).

A little escape to the dinosaur footprint site along the road.

Searching for the footprints.

These three lines in front of me must be one.
I agree it's difficult to believe...

Protecting ourselves on the dust road.

War supplies along the trail (the Ho Chi Minh trail is nearby).

River crossing.

Reaching the remote village (Ban Vongsikeo).

Vegetable gardens along the river.

 Surprising the village.

How people live.

Dinner.

 Cremation site.

Children repairing their bike.

Typical house.

Weaving loom.

Weaving Looms.

Children playing with their own build weaving loom.

The village school of Ban Vongsikeo.

Discovering that the village can also be reached by four wheel drive...

Harry Potter tree.

Our cook in the trees.

Mobile shop, selling sunglasses and cellphones.

The swimming pool for that night.

Freshly catched fish, still a little alive and moving.
Killed pig.

 Gardening.

Baby dog and baby pig playing together.

Baby dog jumping on baby pig (!).

Man in the trees.

The dream team.
From the left to the right: me, our crazy cook, Steve, Zaidee, and our local guide.

The last picnic, at the end of the three days trek (Sammataek Rapids),
awaiting road transportation back to Savannakhet.

Fun with the cook.

Returning to Savannakhet by truck.

"SLOWLY MEN AT WORK".

Streetfood along the road:
boiled duck embryos, eaten in the shell...

Streetfood along the road: giant snails...
