Don Det

Friday 23/11/2012 & Saturday 24/11/2012 - DON DET.

Don Det is a little place on one of the thousand Mekong islands, near to the Laos-Combodja border.


- Kayak tour on the Mekong, downstream towards Cambodja.
- Biking on Don Det and Don Khon.
- 11:00 AM Ferry to the continent, Bus to Savannakhet, and 2:30 PM bus to Paksé.

Friday 23/11

Start of the day, just before boarding the kayak.

Avoiding the rapids.

 Strange "fishing equipement", probably functioning in the rainy season.

Great!  Meanwhile 'they' transfered our kayaks downstream, after the rapids.

Stopped and landed in Cambodja.

 All on duty.

Confirming that we are in Cambodja!

End of the kayak day, back in Laos.

Next Day, Saturday 24/11.

Children of my guesthouse, repairing their baloon.

The bridge linking the Don Det and Don Khon islands.

The French build a railway system on these islands, to bypass

the multiple rapids of the Mekong, changing boat at each end.

I did not apply for it.

Finally a good job.

Returned my rantal bike at the guesthouse.

Strange 10:30 AM breakfast, isn't it?

11:00 AM the ferry is ready for boarding.

15 minutes later, back on the continent (Ban Nakasan)..

Rushing through the shopping streets of Ban Nakasan,

to catch the bus for Savannakhet.
