Listvianka

Sunday 21/04/2013 & Monday 22/04/2013 - LISTVIANKA (Lake Baikal).

Listvianka, Листвянка, an attractive village of about 2000 inhabitants on Lake Baikal, about 60km from Irkutsk.
Lake Baikal is the deepest and the most voluminous lake in the world (but the largest),.  It holds one-fifth of the world's freshwater.

The opposite side of the lake, about 50km distant.

Entering Listvianka.

The froozen lake.  The ice is thick enough to support pedestrians and snowmobiles
The little wooden shelters on the beach can be rented for vodka + smoked fish picnics.

Hydrofoils transporting people over the ice.

The outdoor market, selling mostly freshly smoked omul.

Omul fish.  A delicious fish, fresh from the lake.
Village street.

House construction.

Police station (Taltsy).

Wooden church (Taltsy).

One day 18km hiking to Bolshiye Koty.

Sometimes the trail is easy to find, sometimes it is rather hard, no marks, no signs.

Yes, indeed, Russians indeed tend to leave their waste!
The Hotel.

'Dream of Baikal' Hotel.
