Auli

Tuesday 12/03/2013 - AULI.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auli

It is a wild 10h ride with the direct bus from Rishikesh to Joshimath,
the mountain road is in a very poor condition and is dangerous.
Fortunately there are some stops underway to breath and to recover.

At Joshimath's bus stand, one must negotiate a jeep for Auli
(500Rs for a 12km, 40 minutes ride).

 View from Auli's temple platform.
I got watery eyes from emotion, being surrounded by these Himalaya mountains.

From Auli (3000m), one must take a chairlift to reach the ski area.

The ski resort of Auli has only one slope and one ski lift (+ some 5 tourists).
Equipement rental costs 400Rs (~5.50€).  The lift costs 50Rs (~0.70€).
On my right hand side (left of me on this picture) the Nanda Devi peak.

The Mt Nanda Devi, the highest mountain of India (>7800m).

Without snow groomer, it is up to the army to maintain the ski slope!
